The Weekly Universe
Volume #36
In the past, it was widely believed that the fastest sperm made it to the egg.
Recently, scientists have discovered that’s not the case at all.
Studies now show that the egg CHOOSES a sperm and signals for that one to speed up, and signals to all the other ones to slow down.
You were CHOSEN to win the race.
“People drastically underestimate how deeply this practice can take you into higher states of consciousness…
One of the easiest shifts is simply to recognize:
“Am I in ANTICIPATION (stress, lack, suffering, energy of “this moment should be different”) right now
or APPRECIATION (joy, abundance, inner warmth and nourishment, flow)
Just recognizing this & making that shift throughout the day can radically change the course of one’s life.”
“we are overstimulated and we don’t even notice. netflix while eating. reels in the bathroom. music while cooking. podcasts on walks. we consume by default, not by intention. you keep filling every gap, then wonder why you feel foggy and unmotivated. boredom and silence are the real growth drivers. they give you space to think and create. that’s when solutions show up for problems that have been stuck for months. leave some room"
“I can’t stop thinking about this piece of advice a friend once told me:
“Don’t stay up late for something you wouldn’t wake up early for.””
“Today is the 249th day of me maintaining strict daily discipline in multiple areas of my life.
1. Woke up at 6:45 every morning, and got out of bed immediately.
2. Never ate more than one meal a day. No snacks.
3. Worked out every day. No rest days, no deloads. Started with twelve sets each day, increased it to fifteen.
4. Practiced bass guitar every day. Started with two hours per day, increased it to two and a half.
In addition, I maintained several other rituals related to journaling, focused music listening, X posting, and the like, with the same degree of daily consistency.
The results thus far have been nothing short of transformative.
From a night owl with a lifetime of chaotic sleep patterns, I became someone who falls asleep at the same time every night and wakes up two minutes before the alarm.
From someone who’d been pudgy nearly all his life, I became someone who stays at ~10% body fat all the time, and keeps building muscle at that level of leanness.
From someone who could only play simple basslines decently, I became someone who plays virtuosic technical death metal basslines at full speed.
Seeing the profound effect my transformation had on my self-improvement pursuits, my general productivity, and even our family life, my wife got on board too — her daily workout streak is already 173 days long, she’s built muscle all over, and is pumping pullups like nobody’s business.
We’ve realized that the more disciplined we become, the easier life gets, and the faster we improve on every level, so we’re starting to expand the discipline approach to EVERYTHING. Paradoxically, the more rigorously we structure our lives and environment, the freer and more relaxed we feel — it’s SO DAMN LIBERATING not having to constantly wonder what you’ll do next, and then constantly having to expend willpower to get anything done.
I’m 37, and I’ve just realized I’ve been doing life wrong for the past 36 years.
From now on, discipline is my religion.”
We’re so back.
That’s all for this week :)
